Capgemini is seeking an experienced AI Data and Graph Engineer to join their innovative team working on cutting-edge AI-native products within the Financial Services sector. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining complex knowledge graphs that enable AI agents to operate safely and effectively across regulated and sensitive domains. The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining time spent at company offices, client sites, and from home, with the understanding that working entirely from home is not permitted.
As part of the onboarding process, candidates will undergo various pre-employment checks, including identity verification, nationality or immigration status confirmation, employment history review covering the past three years, and a criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
About Us
Capgemini is developing a new AI-driven product organization within its Financial Services division. The team focuses on creating products rather than projects, such as software for insurance claims, payment processing, and health operations, tailored for banks, insurers, and healthcare providers. The engineering approach is highly autonomous, with engineers responsible for writing specifications, tooling, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails, while AI agents handle most implementation tasks. Human oversight remains critical, especially in regulated areas where some decisions are exclusively human.
The Role
In this role, you will focus on constructing and operationalizing knowledge graphs that serve as the backbone for AI agents. Your responsibilities include defining the ontology and schema, resolving entities, and developing pipelines to build and refresh the graph from client data. You will enhance graph retrieval capabilities, optimize query performance, and develop the retrieval stack, including embedding strategies, hybrid search, and reranking techniques.
Additional duties involve managing data pipelines for ingestion, quality checks, and monitoring, as well as maintaining an immutable audit trail and client reporting tools. Ensuring permission-aware access controls, tenant isolation, and governance of episodic and precedent data within the agent memory system are also key aspects of the role. You will collaborate on defining data contracts to prevent inconsistent entity modeling across product lines and work with industry standards such as ISO 20022 and Guidewire.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with production data engineering, graph databases like Neo4j, entity resolution, and retrieval systems optimized for AI workloads. Familiarity with regulated data handling, analytical data platforms like ClickHouse, and context engineering within models will be highly advantageous.
Technology Stack
The supported technology stack includes self-hosted platforms such as LangSmith and LangGraph, PostgreSQL with pgvector, ClickHouse, S3-compatible storage, Neo4j Enterprise, Kubernetes, Helm, Argo CD, and observability tools like OpenTelemetry and Grafana. Experience with similar components or alternative orchestration frameworks is also relevant.
Work Environment and Success Metrics
Capgemini emphasizes a small, senior engineering team with a focus on quality, review, and human oversight. Success in the first year includes unattended graph build and refresh processes, improved retrieval quality, demonstrated security and tenant isolation, and reuse of data models across multiple product lines.
Inclusion and Benefits
Capgemini is committed to being a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and offers inclusive recruitment processes. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package, wellbeing initiatives, and extensive training opportunities to support employee growth and wellbeing.
