About the Team

The Product Operations team is at the core of how the product and research & development (R&D) teams function. Their role involves creating systems, practices, and connections that enable teams to focus on solving the right problems and delivering high-quality products. AI is increasingly becoming a vital part of this work, with teams experimenting with tools like Glean and Claude, developing automations, testing AI agents, and exploring new AI applications throughout the product development cycle. The goal now is to systematize these efforts to maximize impact.

About the Role

The AI Product Operations Lead will be responsible for building and managing the internal AI Operations capabilities within R&D. This hands-on position requires someone who can transform ambiguous opportunities into reliable, widely adopted solutions. Your work will involve identifying high-value AI problems, understanding current workflows, designing suitable solutions, overseeing their implementation, and monitoring their performance post-launch.

You might find yourself working with a team to analyze a frustrating workflow and deciding whether a simple prompt, automation, integration, agent, or internal app is the best solution. Alternatively, you could be improving existing AI workflows, testing their reliability, coordinating access to enterprise AI tools, or collaborating with IT and InfoSec to ensure scalable, responsible deployment of new solutions. You will serve as the link between AI strategy and daily execution, combining systems thinking, AI expertise, user discovery, technical skills, and operational ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and refine a backlog of AI opportunities, helping teams prioritize projects with the highest potential impact.
• Manage ambiguous problems from discovery to delivery, including understanding user needs, exploring options, designing solutions, coordinating implementation, testing, documenting, launching, and iterating for improvements.
• Create simple, AI-native solutions that integrate naturally into existing workflows, knowing when basic prompts suffice versus when complex workflows or custom applications are needed.
• Assist R&D teams in maximizing the value of enterprise AI tools like Glean and Claude by working with IT and InfoSec on access, configuration, and support issues.
• Oversee the lifecycle of AI systems, including automations, skills, agents, and internal web applications, ensuring they operate reliably and securely.
• Develop practical methods for evaluating, testing, monitoring, and maintaining AI systems, emphasizing reliability, security, and observability, and using feedback to improve over time.
• Collaborate with various teams to uncover needs, resolve obstacles, clarify responsibilities, and involve relevant experts to ensure successful project execution.
• Contribute to AI governance and enablement practices within R&D, providing leadership with insights into active projects, risks, adoption, and outcomes.
• Participate in Typeformâ??s broader AI governance initiatives as a key contributor from the R&D side.
• Work with Finance and other departments to improve transparency around AI tool usage, costs, and value, informing strategic investments.
• Explore and support the development of autonomous AI agents to enhance planning, discovery, design, development, evaluation, and management processes across the product lifecycle.

Candidate Profile

• Hands-on experience applying AI to solve real-world problems, with a focus on building solutions that are actively used by people.
• Proven ability to manage ambiguous problems from initial discovery through to successful implementation, testing, and ongoing improvement.
• Strong systems thinking skills, capable of understanding complex interactions between people, processes, tools, data, and technical constraints, and making thoughtful trade-offs.
• Excellent skills in user and workflow discovery, with the ability to dig beneath initial requests to understand core needs and simplify solutions.
• Technical fluency with the ability to build, modify, and troubleshoot internal workflows, automations, agents, or applications.
• Experience with modern development tools and practices such as GitHub, repositories, pull requests, deployment, logging, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks, managing dependencies and risks, documenting decisions, and communicating clearly with stakeholders.
• A focus on evaluation and reliability, with a mindset geared toward defining success, testing quality, collecting feedback, and iterating for improvements.
• Strong collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams, with confidence in asking questions, challenging assumptions, and seeking expert input.
• Good judgment regarding responsible AI use, security, access management, and governance, knowing when to involve specialized partners.
