About the Analytics Engineering Team

The Analytics Engineering division at Deliveroo is a vital component of the company’s analytics efforts, alongside Data Science. With over 70 Analytics Engineers based across the UK and India, the team is embedded directly within various product and business domains. Their responsibilities include developing data pipelines, models, and metrics that support decision-making at all levelsâ??from self-serve AI analytics and experimentation to executive reporting and strategic planning. The discipline is rapidly evolving, shifting from traditional data pipeline construction to creating AI-first data products, enriching semantic and data context layers, and empowering self-service data users.

Role Responsibilities

• Directly manage a team of Analytics Engineers within a specific business domain, overseeing their performance, professional development, and well-being.
• Own the analytics engineering roadmap for your domain, prioritizing projects with high leverage, balancing requests, and advocating for initiatives with stakeholders.
• Drive a data products approach by establishing clear ownership, service level agreements, observability standards, and data contracts as default practices.
• Maintain active technical involvement through reviewing data models and SQL, guiding architectural decisions, and providing hands-on support when needed.
• Contribute to organizational decisions on tooling, standards, and processes, influencing how Analytics Engineering functions across Deliveroo.
• Build a high-performing, inclusive team culture through regular feedback, managing performance challenges, and facilitating effective team rituals.
• Collaborate with recruiting teams to attract and onboard diverse, talented Analytics Engineers.

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive experience in Analytics Engineering, BI Engineering, or Data Engineering roles, with strong SQL skills that are actively used.
• Proven experience managing a team of individual contributors, with a focus on talent development, providing constructive feedback, and handling team dynamics independently.
• Ability to own and execute a technical roadmap within a domain, demonstrating measurable business impact.
• Deep understanding of the modern Analytics Engineering stack, including cloud data warehouses, transformation tools, data modeling, and data quality practices, with the credibility to make technical decisions and unblock your team.
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders in business and product areas, aligning analytics efforts with strategic priorities.
• Preferred experience includes working within marketplaces, e-commerce, grocery, or retail analytics environments.
• Familiarity with semantic and metrics layer tools, or proficiency in Python for data automation and pipeline development.
• Knowledge of AI applications in data, such as agentic AI methods, semantic layers, or AI-assisted workflows.
• Experience in establishing best practices for analytics workflows, including documentation, peer review, onboarding, and knowledge sharing processes.
