Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Deliveroo is seeking a skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer to join their London-based team. This role involves working within a hybrid setup, typically requiring three days in the office each week. As part of the Core BI team, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the systems, models, and automation that support business intelligence across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt. The team is responsible for developing reliable, scalable, and secure BI tools that empower analysts, data scientists, and business teams to access trusted data for decision-making.

About the Team

The Core BI team manages the services, integrations, and automation that underpin the BI ecosystem for multiple brands within the group. Their work ensures that data is discoverable, trustworthy, and accessible, supporting a wide range of analytical and operational needs. The team combines software engineering expertise with a focus on user-centric design to deliver self-service BI solutions and improve platform reliability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of and enhance the semantic layer that underpins our business intelligence platforms, including managing LookML and Canvas BI models, defining metrics and dimensions, and establishing governance protocols to ensure data trustworthiness.
  • Lead the configuration, management, and operational upkeep of BI platforms such as Looker and Sigma, including setting up instances and workspaces, managing user permissions and attributes, overseeing content lifecycle, and automating tasks via APIs.
  • Develop and implement self-service tools that streamline BI administration, utilizing analytics to identify opportunities for automation, building new solutions, or retiring outdated ones to improve efficiency.
  • Support migration efforts and deprecation of BI platforms across the organization, ensuring seamless access, governance, data integrity, and continuity of business operations during transitions.
  • Participate in operational activities including debugging, incident management, and resolving production issues related to the BI stack, addressing root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote best practices in BI engineering by enforcing standards such as version control, code reviews, continuous integration, and testing to ensure safe and consistent deployment of changes.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and business teams to translate recurring user needs into reliable, self-service capabilities that support decision-making.

Candidate Profile

  • Over three years of experience in business intelligence engineering, analytics engineering, data engineering, or similar roles involving coding and data solutions.
  • Strong skills in Python and SQL, with experience using AI tools like large language models and AI-assisted workflows to enhance engineering productivity.
  • Practical experience working with BI platforms such as Looker (including LookML) or Sigma, involving modeling, configuration, and management, not just dashboard creation.
  • Deep understanding of semantic or metrics layers, including defining and maintaining metrics and dimensions with tools like LookML or dbt.
  • Experience deploying BI solutions in production, including version control, code review, CI, debugging, and operational support.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, distributed environment with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Preferred experience with data warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift, and performance optimization skills.
  • Knowledge of automating BI administration tasks via APIs and managing access controls through identity management tools like Okta or SCIM.
  • Experience supporting BI across multiple regions or brands, or leading platform migration projects, is advantageous.
