We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Data Scientist to join our Alexa for Shopping Science team in London. This position focuses on enhancing the language technology that powers Alexa for Shopping, an AI-driven assistant designed to facilitate customers’ shopping experiences. The role involves developing conversation-based, multimodal shopping solutions through data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis, modeling, and optimization of AI technologies to enhance shopping experiences.
• Measure and improve multimodal conversational systems, focusing on large language models and recommender systems.
• Perform hands-on analysis of extensive multimodal datasets to derive insights for customer shopping journeys.
• Utilize statistical methods and machine learning to develop scalable solutions for optimizing shopping assistant systems.
• Design and analyze A/B tests to evaluate new features and model improvements, ensuring statistical rigor.
• Create metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to track system performance and customer engagement.
• Build predictive models and perform deep-dive analyses to identify opportunities for enhancing customer experience.
• Collaborate with Applied Scientists and Engineers to translate analytical insights into production systems.
• Establish automated processes for large-scale data analysis and experimentation frameworks.
• Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through presentations and reports.

About the Team

The Alexa for Shopping Science team in London consists of approximately 150 engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to advancing AI-driven shopping experiences. The team works on various aspects of the Alexa for Shopping AI, including enabling customers to set price alerts and understanding multimodal user queries.

Basic Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a machine learning or data scientist role within a large technology organization.
• Familiarity with machine learning and statistical modeling tools and techniques.
• Proficiency in data scripting languages such as SQL, Python, or R, or statistical software like R, SAS, or Matlab.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex concepts effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in defining benchmarks for assessing GenAI model performance.
• Familiarity with AWS services including S3, Redshift, Sagemaker, and others.
• Experience working on multi-team, cross-disciplinary projects.
