G-Research is seeking a Deputy Head of Open Source Development to lead its Open Source Program Office (OSPO), which is one of the largest and most influential in the world. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the contributions made to open-source projects align with the internal priorities and business needs of the organization.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Open-Source Development and various teams including Research, Machine Learning, and Platform Engineering. The position involves fostering relationships across engineering, research, architecture, and leadership teams to drive the adoption and understanding of the OSPO’s initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily engagement between the OSPO and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment of open-source contributions with business goals.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Open-Source Development to shape strategy, evaluate opportunities, and prioritize work across relevant areas.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across various teams within the organization.
  • Identify emerging technical needs and translate them into actionable open-source initiatives.
  • Act as the primary contact for new requests, managing stakeholder expectations and requirements.
  • Evaluate technologies and research tools to assess their suitability for adoption.
  • Drive the internal adoption of open-source contributions, gathering feedback and coordinating improvements.
  • Promote awareness of the OSPOâ??s capabilities and strategic value across the firm.
  • Support governance and portfolio management within the OSPO.
  • Maintain clear documentation and reporting to communicate the program’s impact.

Who Are We Looking For?

The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background in distributed systems, data platforms, machine learning, or related fields. Experience in writing production-quality code in languages such as Python, C++, Java, Rust, or Go is essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels are crucial for success in this role.

Additionally, the candidate should have strong relationship-building skills, the ability to navigate complex environments, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. Experience in contributing to open-source projects or working in quantitative research or regulated environments is a plus.
