The UK water industry is currently navigating a critical period marked by the need to meet sustainability goals, comply with regulatory standards, upgrade aging infrastructure, and respond to rising customer expectations. Water companies must innovate at scale, leveraging digital tools such as data analytics, automation, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) to succeed. Capgemini Invent is actively supporting some of the UK’s largest water providers in this transformation journey. As our demand for consulting services grows, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Director to join our expanding Water Sector team within the Energy Transition & Utilities division.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be instrumental in leading the pursuit of new business opportunities and managing the delivery of complex projects for major water companies across the UK. Your leadership will help strengthen Capgemini’s market position, foster client relationships at the senior level, and guide the development of our team members. You will be responsible for setting strategic direction, driving business growth, and ensuring the successful execution of advisory, consulting, and transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development: Spearhead proposal development, bids, client engagement efforts, and industry events to attract new clients and expand existing relationships.
- Project Delivery: Oversee the execution of client projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, stay within budget, and are completed on time.
- Practice Development: Support recruitment activities, build capabilities within the team, and contribute to the development of new service offerings.
- Learning & Development: Mentor and coach team members, fostering their professional growth while continuing your own development.
- Thought Leadership: Contribute insights and industry knowledge through publications, market analysis, and participation in industry events.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates with extensive consulting experience in the UK water sector, ideally with direct experience working with major water companies. You should possess exceptional consulting skills, a proven ability to develop business propositions, and experience leading high-performing teams. Experience in digital transformation projectsâ??covering areas such as capital delivery, water and waste operations, or corporate functionsâ??is essential. You should have a strong understanding of regulatory issues, market trends, and the future direction of the UK water industry. An entrepreneurial mindset, independence, and collaborative working style are highly valued. Additionally, candidates should be passionate about coaching and mentoring others, with flexibility to travel and work at client sites as required.
Technical and Service Expertise
- Advisory, consulting, and transformation services related to water and waste operations, asset management, and capital projects.
- Business development and growth strategies.
- Design and deployment of digital transformation initiatives, including data analytics, AI, IoT, automation, digital twins, and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
- Emerging technologies and innovative solutions relevant to the water sector.
