As an Electronics Laboratory Technician at Graphcore, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the Bristol laboratories. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that the facilities, equipment, tools, and processes are adequately prepared to facilitate engineering activities. You will work within a collaborative laboratory team, maintaining a safe, organized, and dependable electronics lab environment while assisting cross-functional teams with various tasks.
Team Overview
The Laboratory team is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electronic systems, cables, and equipment within Graphcore’s laboratories. This team collaborates closely with engineering groups to set up test benches, troubleshoot routine lab issues, and ensure that all equipment is safe, available, and functioning reliably. Additionally, the team maintains technical documentation, manages tools and assets, and contributes to the overall efficiency and quality of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, setup, and calibration of electronic testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies.
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure laboratory equipment is safe, reliable, and available for use.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and maintain ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) countermeasures, reporting any issues that require corrective action.
- Oversee asset management tasks, including tracking tools and laboratory assets.
- Manage the processes for receiving and dispatching laboratory equipment, components, and related materials.
- Support engineering teams by setting up test benches and ensuring equipment is configured and ready for hardware validation and characterization.
- Assist in creating and updating standard operating procedures, work instructions, and technical guidance for laboratory users.
- Provide practical assistance to laboratory users, offering guidance on safe equipment usage and routine lab operations.
- Aid engineering teams with modifications to boards, cables, and wires, adhering to established procedures and quality standards.
- Keep accurate records of equipment, maintenance activities, assets, and laboratory processes.
- Identify and address routine laboratory issues, collaborating with colleagues to resolve or escalate them as necessary.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications:
- Proven experience in an electronics laboratory or a similar technical setting.
- Strong practical knowledge of electronic testing equipment, including setup, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
- Understanding of ESD controls and safe working practices within an electronics lab.
- Ability to accurately follow technical procedures and maintain clear documentation.
- Hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, lab organization, or asset tracking.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality, safety, and reliability.
- Effective communication skills, capable of collaborating with engineering and operations teams.
- A proactive and organized approach to task management and supporting laboratory users.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience supporting hardware bring-up, validation, or characterization activities.
- Experience with soldering, rework, cable assembly, or board-level modifications.
- Familiarity with calibration processes, asset management systems, or goods in/out processes.
- Relevant technical qualification in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working in a semiconductor, electronics, computing hardware, or high-technology R&D environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality processes, equipment documentation, or standard operating procedures.
