Our client, a leading UK-based technology firm specializing in high-performance physical layer solutions for 5G and next-generation wireless networks, particularly focusing on Non-Terrestrial Networks such as satellite communications, is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join their expanding engineering team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation wireless communication technologies.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing software infrastructure that supports high-performance embedded and real-time systems. Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams including software, hardware, and systems engineers, you will help deliver innovative communication products while enhancing system performance, reliability, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software platforms used for running and testing communication algorithms.
- Improve software performance through multi-threading, SIMD, and hardware acceleration techniques.
- Integrate software solutions with ARM-based embedded hardware platforms and systems.
- Support automated testing and continuous integration pipelines to ensure high-quality software releases.
- Participate in system integration, interoperability testing, and validation activities.
- Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and architecture teams to produce robust solutions.
- Engage in technical reviews and contribute to customer-facing engineering discussions.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Strong programming skills in C or C++, with a solid understanding of software development principles.
- Experience working within Linux environments and developing embedded software applications.
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Groovy.
- Knowledge of real-time systems and performance-critical software development.
- Experience with version control tools like Git and familiarity with modern development workflows.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Background in telecommunications or wireless communication systems.
- Knowledge of 5G standards and related specifications.
- Experience with networking technologies such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
- Familiarity with FPGA, DSP, or hardware acceleration technologies.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains like Xilinx Vivado.
- Exposure to O-RAN architectures and fronthaul technologies.
- Test and validation experience, especially involving RF equipment and signal analysis.
Interview Process
The selection process involves two stages: an initial 30-minute screening interview to discuss your experience, motivations, and technical background; followed by a 90-minute onsite technical interview focused on problem-solving, software engineering fundamentals, and communications knowledge, culminating in a site tour.
