We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join a well-established company operating within the industrial sector in Bristol. This role involves designing and developing embedded firmware for industrial tools, focusing on interface and communication systems. The successful candidate will have a minimum of four years of professional experience in embedded software development, particularly with embedded C or bare-metal programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement firmware solutions for industrial equipment, ensuring robust communication interfaces.
- Work with communication protocols such as SPI, CAN, and RS485 to enable device connectivity.
- Use diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot and debug embedded firmware issues.
- Manage source code using version control systems such as Git to facilitate collaboration and maintain code quality.
- Consider electronics design aspects during firmware development to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
- Develop multithreaded or multi-process embedded applications, utilizing UML for design and documentation.
- Work with microcontroller architectures including ARM and Microchip dsPIC to develop firmware solutions.
- Utilize scripting languages like Python to automate tasks and improve development workflows.
- Apply expertise in Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) to ensure timely and reliable system performance.
- Collaborate effectively with software teams and broader engineering groups to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Maintain clear communication to ensure technical requirements are understood and met across teams.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of four years of experience in embedded software engineering, with a focus on embedded C or bare-metal programming.
- Practical experience with communication protocols such as SPI, CAN, and RS485.
- Strong debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar tools.
- Proficiency with source control systems like Git.
- Good understanding of electronics design principles relevant to embedded systems.
- Experience developing multithreaded or multi-process embedded systems, with UML knowledge.
- Familiarity with ARM and/or Microchip dsPIC microcontroller architectures.
- Ability to write and support scripting in Python.
- Experience working with RTOS environments.
- Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and collaboration.
