Google is seeking an experienced Energy Partnerships Lead to drive strategic collaborations and negotiations with key energy partners across the EMEA region, supporting the company’s expanding data center infrastructure. This role involves building and nurturing relationships with senior executives in the energy sector, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop an energy-first approach that guarantees reliable power supply and grid readiness for new data center sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and establish relationships with top-tier energy partners, including senior leadership, to facilitate Google’s infrastructure expansion efforts in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external entities to implement strategies prioritizing energy reliability and grid compatibility for upcoming data center projects in the region.
  • Originate and develop strategic opportunities for infrastructure growth in emerging markets by engaging with governments, utility companies, developers, and regulators, alongside internal stakeholders.
  • Perform market scenario analyses, evaluate potential energy agreements, and assess investment opportunities to support data center expansion through effective energy procurement strategies.
  • Lead negotiations for high-value contracts such as power purchase agreements, energy supply contracts, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and infrastructure agreements, ensuring internal approval processes are followed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelorâ??s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in negotiating and structuring business agreements or leading business development initiatives.
  • Preferably, at least five years of experience within the energy sector, focusing on renewable energy procurement, energy trading, or power market analysis.
  • Experience managing high-stakes negotiations related to energy in the EMEA region.
  • Ability to prepare financial and market scenario models, evaluate energy deals, and participate actively in commercial negotiations.
  • Deep understanding of power generation technologies, regional energy markets, and regulatory frameworks across multiple countries in EMEA.
  • Proven track record of generating leads and expanding portfolios through strategic opportunities.
  • Knowledge of clean energy policies, utility regulations, and grid operations.
  • Strong investigative, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

About the Role

Googleâ??s infrastructure extends beyond servers to include underwater cables and physical data centers. The Strategic Negotiation team plays a crucial role in securing the infrastructure needed for Google’s growth, combining market expertise with industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions. The Energy and Location Strategy (ELS) team focuses on site selection and resource acquisition, ensuring data centers have reliable, sustainable power while supporting global efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources.

The Energy and Power (E&P) team is dedicated to providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable power infrastructure. Their core objectives include ensuring high-reliability power supply, managing long-term costs and risks, and advancing Googleâ??s clean energy initiatives. The team works with industry leaders, policymakers, and utility providers to break down barriers and accelerate the shift toward a smarter, carbon-free electricity grid worldwide.
