IT/OT Solution Architect Overview

Capgemini is seeking an experienced IT/OT Solution Architect to join their team in Glasgow. This role involves leading the design of secure, scalable, and supportable solutions that bridge operational technology (OT), enterprise IT, and cloud platforms. The architect will work within industrial environments, translating complex business, operational, and engineering requirements into comprehensive end-to-end architectures that encompass PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, historians, OT networks, industrial edge platforms, enterprise integration, and cloud services.

The primary responsibilities include defining architecture strategies that connect operational systems with enterprise and cloud platforms, designing integration approaches using technologies such as OPC UA, MQTT, APIs, and event-driven architectures, and providing technical leadership to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with architectural standards. The architect will develop reusable patterns, standards, and data models for industrial data, coordinating decisions across multiple domains including OT, networking, cybersecurity, cloud, and data management to support consistent and resilient deployment at scale.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation and operational technology environments, with proven experience in solution architecture across OT, edge, enterprise, data, and cloud domains. They should be familiar with integration technologies like OPC UA, MQTT, and APIs, and possess expertise in designing secure, resilient data solutions that include data contextualization, transformation, storage, and recovery mechanisms.

Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, as the role involves leading workshops, producing architectural documentation, and guiding multidisciplinary teams across OT, cloud, data, and cybersecurity sectors. The candidate must be adept at translating operational and business needs into practical, scalable, and supportable architectures that are future-proof.
