Capgemini is seeking an experienced Java Developer to join their team in Glasgow, working within the Cloud & Custom Applications (C&CA) division focused on Financial Services. This role involves creating innovative, scalable, and business-critical technology solutions that help clients overcome complex challenges. The position emphasizes a collaborative environment where you will work alongside trusted advisors, architects, and delivery teams to develop secure, resilient, and future-ready applications. The work arrangement is hybrid, combining time spent at company offices, client sites, and your home, with the understanding that working entirely from home is not permitted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, high-quality applications that support vital business functions and client success.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, product teams, and engineers to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Create applications that are secure, resilient, and easy to maintain, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Develop seamless integrations between various business services and applications to enhance operational efficiency and user experience.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and solution design to ensure systems are scalable and sustainable for the long term.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and AI-driven innovations within application landscapes.
  • Maintain high standards of code quality through peer reviews, testing, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues promptly to minimize business impact.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and system maintenance.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and development of future-ready skills across teams.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in Java development, preferably with Java 21 or 25, focusing on enterprise applications.
  • Expertise in Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and Microservices architecture, with a background in cloud-native solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, object-oriented programming, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing API-first architectures, integration solutions, and event-driven applications.
  • Familiarity with integration patterns, data transformation, messaging frameworks, and asynchronous processing.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, build tools like Maven and Gradle, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and deploying containerized applications in cloud environments.
  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including performance tuning and scalability considerations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills for resolving complex technical issues across distributed environments.
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum teams and collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Highly Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools, code generation platforms, and emerging AI technologies.
  • Knowledge of building or integrating AI-enabled applications, Large Language Models, and automation solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, including deployment and management of cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with event-streaming and messaging technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring, logging, and performance management tools.
  • Experience implementing DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, and deployment automation.
