Category General Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

Proton is seeking a dedicated Localization Manager to oversee the end-to-end management of localization projects across multiple products and markets. This role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, managing localization assets, and ensuring timely, culturally appropriate product releases. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and closing localization initiatives, maintaining budgets, and building strong vendor relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of your assigned localization portfolio, from initial string freeze to the productâ??s general release, including planning, execution, and closure phases.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams such as Product, Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Support to ensure timely delivery against fixed release schedules, and verify that each locale is fully prepared for launch.
  • Oversee the administration of translation management systems (TMS) and computer-assisted translation (CAT) workflows, ensuring smooth handoffs among stakeholders and maintaining assets like scope models, timelines, readiness checklists, and go/no-go criteria for repeatable product launches.
  • Monitor and control localization budgets, tracking translation expenses per product and language, reconciling costs monthly, and identifying potential overruns early to enable corrective action.
  • Build, recruit, and manage a pool of vendors and freelancers, including pre-qualification, testing, maintaining service level agreements (SLAs), confidentiality agreements, and documentation, as well as conducting quarterly performance reviews.
  • Escalate issues to the Localization Lead and involve Legal and Finance teams when necessary to resolve blockers or contractual concerns.
  • Ensure localization content is culturally and contextually adapted rather than simply transliterated, especially for growth-related content such as email campaigns, landing pages, marketplace listings, pricing, and onboarding messages.
  • Brief and review localization adaptations, flagging cultural or regulatory risks prior to release, and owning the internationalization of email templates and content logic when applicable.
  • Serve as the primary linguistic and internationalization contact point for stakeholders including Product Managers, UX Writers, Marketers, Developers, and Support teams, and work to improve localization practices through retrospectives and corrective actions.
  • Design and execute experiments with localized content, measure their impact, and interpret results within the growth and product analytics frameworks, including segmentation and funnel analysis by locale.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience managing localization projects or programs from start to finish, especially those involving multiple workstreams and markets with fixed deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English at a high level (minimum B2â??C2), with native or professional working skills in at least one additional language, demonstrating the ability to distinguish native-sounding copy from merely correct translations.
  • Hands-on experience with translation management systems (TMS) and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, with a solid understanding of localization best practices and internationalization standards.
  • Proven ability to manage vendors and freelancers, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and cost control, with close attention to budget lines and expenses.
  • Comfort with operational data, including defining relevant metrics, monitoring them regularly, and implementing behavioral changes based on data insights.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and workstreams simultaneously.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience with A/B testing on localized content surfaces.
  • Experience with localization within CRM or marketing automation platforms, including transactional and lifecycle email templates and logic.
  • Exposure to machine translation post-editing (MTPE), quality estimation, or automated language quality assurance processes.
  • Experience localizing content with legal or regulatory implications, such as privacy disclosures or legal updates.
