Ping Identity is seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Manager to oversee and lead the operational aspects of the company’s security engineering team. This role involves managing daily security operations, enhancing team capabilities, and ensuring the effective deployment of security measures across enterprise and SaaS environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, extensive incident response experience, and the ability to translate security priorities into sustainable operational practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily activities of the Cyber Security Engineering team, ensuring efficient security service delivery.
- Improve operational capacity through better planning, prioritization, and delegation within the team.
- Develop and enhance team skills in incident response, detection engineering, automation, and security operations.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to team members to foster a high-performance environment.
- Design, implement, and refine incident response procedures, including creating comprehensive playbooks for incident handling.
- Coordinate incident response efforts across multiple teams, ensuring swift and effective resolution of security incidents.
- Offer technical guidance in assessing system designs, operational risks, and change management processes.
- Manage the weekly on-call rotation, including escalation procedures, response quality, and operational readiness.
- Lead the development of reliable, scalable security solutions tailored to the company’s needs.
- Support detection engineering activities and help identify security threats proactively.
- Identify operational gaps and risks, translating them into actionable security improvements.
- Align security operations with the broader team strategy and security roadmap.
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, product, and operations teams to improve overall security posture.
- Support automation initiatives, scripting, and integration with security orchestration tools.
- Utilize SIEM systems like Google Chronicle and YARA-L to monitor and analyze security events.
- Work with cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP to ensure security best practices are followed.
- Engage with container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker for security and incident response purposes.
- Deploy and manage Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools to enhance endpoint security.
- Lead cross-team projects, influencing stakeholders outside of direct reporting lines to meet security goals.
- Communicate operational priorities, risks, and trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, managing escalations and operational incidents as needed.
- Contribute to building or leading Security Operations Centers (SOCs) and security capability development initiatives.
- Define operational models, team roadmaps, and maturity plans to advance security functions.
- Integrate threat intelligence into security systems to improve detection and response capabilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience leading or managing security operations, engineering, incident response, or technical security teams.
- Strong background in operational security delivery, including planning, prioritization, and continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to build team capacity and develop technical security skills.
- Hands-on incident response experience managing complex security incidents involving multiple teams.
- Experience with automation tools within SOAR platforms and scripting automation.
- Familiarity with SIEM systems, especially Google Chronicle and YARA-L.
- Understanding of cloud environments such as AWS and GCP.
- Experience working with container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker in security contexts.
- Knowledge of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools and their deployment.
- Ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence teams beyond direct reports.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate security priorities and risks.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills during security incidents and escalations.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for incident management.
