Anthropic is seeking a highly experienced leader to serve as the first Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE), a pivotal role in shaping how enterprise clients adopt and deploy AI solutions. This position involves building and scaling a new team of FDEs, setting high standards for technical excellence and customer engagement, and developing repeatable processes and best practices to ensure successful project delivery.

The Manager will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top engineering talent, fostering an environment where team members can perform at their best. They will oversee customer engagements, making resource allocation decisions that align client needs with team capacity and business goals. Collaboration with sales and account teams during pre-sales activities will be essential to scope projects and define work statements.

Technical oversight is a key aspect of this role, including reviewing architectures and code, leading technical discovery sessions, prototyping solutions, and troubleshooting complex issues alongside engineers. The Manager will also create operational routines such as standups, retrospectives, and engagement reviews to maintain team alignment and performance. Building comprehensive playbooks, repositories, and knowledge bases to capture lessons learned from fieldwork will be part of the responsibilities.

This leadership role requires travel approximately 25-50% of the time, primarily during project kickoffs and for high-priority accounts. The ideal candidate will have over ten years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, or a related customer-facing technical role, with at least two years of managerial experience in a service or post-sales environment. Experience in building organizations from scratch, working directly with enterprise clients, and engaging with senior stakeholders is essential. Strong communication skills and a passion for defining new standards and building impactful teams are also required.

The annual compensation package ranges from £255,000 to £325,000 GBP. The company offers a hybrid working model, requiring staff to be in the office at least 25% of the time.
