We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Systems Engineer to join an innovative AI startup based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the software modeling and benchmarking processes that validate the system’s performance, working in close partnership with the CTO. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the digital twin software model, which simulates system behavior before hardware implementation. Your work will include building agentic AI workloads and GraphRAG systems that demonstrate tangible improvements, as well as designing comprehensive benchmarks to measure latency, GPU utilization, token reduction, throughput, and cost efficiency per query.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the software models used to evaluate system performance, ensuring they accurately reflect real-world behavior.
• Develop agentic AI and GraphRAG workloads that showcase system enhancements and efficiencies.
• Create and manage a detailed benchmarking suite to assess various performance metrics.
• Design experiments to analyze how the semantic memory layer impacts inference speed and accuracy.
• Develop datasets for enterprise knowledge graphs and establish evaluation methodologies for system validation.
• Collaborate with hardware and systems teams to ensure software models are compatible with hardware capabilities.
• Produce evidence and documentation to support pilot projects, fundraising initiatives, and technical validation efforts.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in developing AI systems, retrieval techniques, or AI infrastructure, with a proven track record of deploying production software.
• Hands-on experience with agentic pipelines, large language model fine-tuning, RAG/GraphRAG, or knowledge graph development.
• Proficiency in Python programming, with a strong understanding of machine learning, distributed systems, and performance engineering.
• Experience in designing and implementing rigorous benchmarks and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong systems thinking skills, high initiative, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical data into clear, evidence-based insights.
