Network Engineer – Physical Network Infra – London, UK Overview

The Network Engineering-Physical Network Infra team is an integral part of TikTok’s global technology framework, focusing on innovative networking solutions that support some of the world’s most popular applications. This role involves designing, building, operating, and optimizing a comprehensive global network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design, construct, manage, and enhance the global network infrastructure, which includes backbone networks, data centers, public cloud services, and Edge/CDN.
• Collaborate with various teams, including compute, storage, databases, and recommendation systems, to drive network innovation and development.
• Engage with external vendors and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for the selection of devices and carriers, and conduct testing and validation of these selections.
• Be prepared for travel requirements that may range from 15% to 30% of the time.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, and MPLS technologies.
• Familiarity with network monitoring protocols and tools, including SNMP, Sflow/netflow, and Telemetry.
• Knowledge of data center network architecture, particularly CLOS architecture.
• Hands-on experience with major networking devices from vendors like Cisco, Arista, Juniper, H3C, and Huawei.
• Self-motivated with effective communication and writing skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a global on-call network rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience based on three or more years of work experience.
• In-depth knowledge of network protocols and their implementation in hyperscale data center networks.
• Expertise in MPLS Traffic Engineering technologies, such as Segment Routing, RSVP, and LDP.
• Familiarity with public cloud architectures like AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud, and OCI.
• Knowledge of mainstream commercial switch/router chipsets, such as Broadcom and Barefoot.
• Understanding of IPv6 and IPv4-IPv6 coexistence technologies.
• Experience in programming or scripting with Python or other languages.
