G-Research is seeking an experienced Observability Engineer to join their London-based engineering team. This role involves designing, scaling, and maintaining a variety of observability backends that enable effective telemetry data collection, analysis, and visualization. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the company’s observability infrastructure, ensuring that services are fully observable, resilient, and capable of supporting high-scale cloud operations.
The core responsibilities include extending and maintaining OpenTelemetry frameworks, developing scalable telemetry pipelines, and contributing to SDKs and auto-instrumentation tools. The engineer will ensure Kubernetes workloads are observable and resilient, embed observability standards across teams, and improve incident response through enhanced telemetry coverage. Additionally, providing industry insights and input into the company’s long-term observability roadmap is expected.
Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive experience managing SaaS observability platforms such as DataDog, NewRelic, or Dynatrace at large scale.
- Deep practical knowledge of OpenTelemetry, including SDKs, collectors, and auto-instrumentation techniques.
- Strong familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and DevOps tools like Terraform, ArgoCD, Helm, and Jenkins.
- Experience working with metrics, logs, and tracing systems to support observability initiatives.
- Scripting expertise in Go, Python, or similar languages for developing observability tools.
- Background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or related operational roles focused on system reliability and performance.
- Desirable skills include profiling tools (eBPF, Pixie, Parca), synthetic monitoring, AI-driven observability solutions, and Kafka experience.
