Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine photonic integrated circuit (PIC) layouts, ensuring they align with project specifications and manufacturing standards.
  • Create and prepare mask sets for photonic and semiconductor fabrication processes, facilitating the production of high-quality photonic devices.
  • Verify layout designs against industry-standard design rules, layer stack configurations, and fabrication constraints to guarantee manufacturability.
  • Use layout verification tools such as GDSII editors to review and validate design files before fabrication.
  • Automate layout workflows and repetitive tasks through scripting, primarily utilizing Python, to improve efficiency.
  • Work closely with foundries and fabrication partners to ensure layout compatibility and adherence to manufacturing standards.
  • Document design processes, mask set details, and fabrication procedures meticulously for quality assurance and future reference.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive experience in designing and preparing layouts for photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
  • Proficiency with layout design tools such as GDSFactory and KLayout, including GDSII file creation, editing, and verification.
  • Strong understanding of mask layout creation and mask set preparation for photonic and semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of design rules, layer stacks, and fabrication constraints specific to photonics.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Python or similar languages to streamline design processes.
  • Experience collaborating with fabrication foundries and understanding their manufacturing workflows is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team focused on innovative photonic solutions.
