About the Role

As a Principal AI Engineer, your main responsibilities include defining the architecture for AI functionalities, including model management, large language models, and agent orchestration. You will develop a pragmatic delivery roadmap and oversee the implementation of AI features at scale. Your work will involve building trustworthy AI systems by establishing evaluation frameworks, safety guardrails, and governance practices to ensure accuracy, explainability, and compliance in regulated environments.

You will lead efforts to incorporate AI into the SDLC, including the use of AI-powered coding assistants, agent workflows, and automated testing tools. Your expertise will help modernize legacy systems, improve system scalability, and enhance reliability. Mentoring and guiding engineering teams through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing will be a vital part of your role. Collaboration with product management, security, architecture, and customer support teams will shape the AI roadmap and set realistic expectations for AI deliverables.

Additionally, you will work on extending DevOps pipelines to support AI workloads such as model versioning, automated evaluation, and monitoring, working closely with DevOps engineers. Ensuring AI features deliver tangible benefits to users through attention to detail, transparency, and accessibility is a core focus.

About You

You are a seasoned technical leader with extensive experience in software development and AI. You have shipped AI features to real users and keep pace with the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Your approach is evidence-led, emphasizing maintainable code, testing, and measurable outcomes. You are pragmatic, balancing long-term architecture with short-term delivery needs, and prioritize security, privacy, and performance in your work.

Required Skills and Experience

• Over 12 years of professional software development experience, including leadership roles at the principal or senior level.
• Deep expertise in .NET Core (C#) and React (TypeScript), with active coding involvement.
• Proven experience designing and deploying AI solutions, including large language models, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI or similar, and orchestration frameworks like Semantic Kernel.
• Strong skills in building REST APIs, and proficiency with Entity Framework and Azure SQL or SQL Server.
• Experience evaluating AI system quality through testing, benchmarking, and human review processes, managing non-deterministic behaviors.
• Understanding of web application security, including secure coding practices and handling sensitive data responsibly.
• Proficiency with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with AI tooling within the SDLC, including coding assistants and agent-based developer tools.
• Proven leadership in mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, and influencing architecture decisions.

Nice to Have

• Specialist knowledge in AI areas such as fine-tuning, vector databases, AI observability, multi-agent systems, or ML pipelines.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Add-ins, .NET Framework/WPF, OAuth, SSO, Redis, Linux, Docker, PowerShell scripting, and infrastructure automation.
• Background in enterprise SaaS or compliance-heavy domains like legaltech or fintech, especially applying AI to document or language processing tasks.
