Arm is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to join the Game & Graphics Technology Integration (GTI) team based in Manchester, UK. While the primary location is Manchester, the company is open to considering candidates from other UK offices. This role is ideal for someone passionate about integrating cutting-edge graphics and gaming technologies into commercial game engines and workflows.
The GTI team plays a crucial role in helping developers adopt new Arm technologies by integrating them into popular game engines like Unreal Engine and other proprietary platforms. The team conducts early-stage testing, develops prototypes, and provides feedback to technology teams to refine and improve offerings. The position involves a blend of hands-on engineering, architectural planning, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration. Projects often start with incomplete information, requiring investigation, prototyping, and consensus-building to determine the best practical solutions.
The responsibilities of this role include leading game engine investigations involving Armâ??s latest graphics and compute technologies, assessing architectural options, and developing reusable implementations. The engineer will analyze CPU and GPU performance, diagnose integration issues, and communicate findings effectively to both internal teams and external partners. Providing technical leadership across teams, representing GTI in partner discussions, and mentoring engineers are key aspects of this role. The impact of this work extends beyond individual projects, aiming to enhance technical approaches, identify common challenges, and foster knowledge sharing to empower other engineers to make sound decisions independently.
Candidates should possess extensive experience in graphics or real-time systems software, with practical expertise in Vulkan or similar modern graphics APIs, and strong C++ skills. Experience with graphics debugging and profiling tools, understanding GPU rendering, synchronization, and memory behavior, as well as familiarity with large game engine codebases, are essential. The ability to lead technical initiatives, resolve complex problems, and communicate effectively is also required. Knowledge of Unreal Engine, mobile graphics, Android, or Arm Mali GPUs, and experience with machine learning applications in graphics or neural rendering are advantageous but not mandatory.
The GTI team focuses on supporting the adoption of Armâ??s Neural Graphics Program technologies, including contributions to projects like Neural Dawn, a mobile game utilizing neural graphics and Unreal Engine. Typical tasks include engine modifications, performance testing, tooling development, workflow creation, and direct collaboration with external developers. The teamâ??s ultimate goal is to facilitate the integration of Armâ??s technology into various projects and tech stacks, helping others succeed.
This role offers a relocation package that includes visa sponsorship support for eligible candidates. Arm promotes a culture of innovation driven by its 10x mindset, emphasizing curiosity, ambition, and impactful technology development. The company values diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants regardless of race, gender, disability, or veteran status.
Arm supports flexible hybrid working arrangements, allowing teams to determine their own patterns based on project needs and local regulations. The company encourages applications from individuals eager to contribute to a future of technological progress across industries such as gaming, AI, automotive, and more. Compensation ranges from £126,200 to £170,800 annually, reflecting the seniority and expertise required for this position.
