We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join a well-established team based in central Bristol. This role involves developing embedded software products for a wide range of clients, from small startups to global technology corporations. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and at least five years of professional experience in low-level embedded programming, including Embedded C and Assembly language, with a focus on ARM architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded software solutions tailored to client needs.
- Implement low-level code in Embedded C and Assembly, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Architect embedded systems, leveraging ARM processors to meet technical specifications.
- Work with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) to manage system tasks efficiently.
- Integrate networking protocols such as TCP and UDP to enable communication features within embedded devices.
- Collaborate with team members to review code, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and reviewing their work to support team development.
- Participate in project planning, design reviews, and testing phases to ensure quality standards are met.
- Contribute to process improvements and uphold technical standards across projects.
Candidate Requirements
- Strong academic credentials in electronics, computer science, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in embedded software development.
- Proficiency in Embedded C and Assembly language programming.
- Experience designing embedded systems, especially with ARM architecture processors.
- Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and their application in embedded environments.
- Familiarity with networking protocols such as TCP and UDP.
- Experience in automotive or medical sectors is advantageous.
- Leadership skills or previous team lead experience are desirable, with an interest in progressing into management roles.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a passion for mentoring others.
