Archangel Lightworks is seeking experienced Project Managers to oversee multiple projects within their innovative optical communication division. Role Overview

The Project Manager will work across several optical communication projects, including the ongoing development of the TERRA-M ground station and planning international testing campaigns. Your efforts will directly contribute to bringing advanced laser communication technologies to market, enhancing global connectivity. You will collaborate closely with the Programme Manager and Engineering Manager to ensure project success, aligning technical and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned product development projects, ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, and budget, while supporting the project management and engineering teams.
  • Translate technical requirements into clear project plans in collaboration with engineering teams and technical leads, maintaining alignment with technical backlogs and development strategies.
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and potential issues, implementing mitigation plans to prevent delays or scope creep.
  • Monitor and control project finances, including forecasts, expenditure, and financial reporting, contributing to overall program and company financial health.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Participate in formal documentation reviews and change control processes to ensure project clarity and compliance.
  • Support the delivery of innovative laser communication systems that aim to transform space-to-ground connectivity and support national and international space initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience managing full product development lifecycles in hardware and/or software, preferably within research-intensive or space-related organizations.
  • Knowledge of stage-gate development processes and product lifecycle management from R&D to production.
  • Experience managing relationships with governmental and commercial stakeholders such as Innovate UK, UK Space Agency, and ESA, including handling project funding and contractual negotiations.
  • Ability to oversee project finances, forecasts, claims, and audits related to public funding.
  • Holding a recognized project management qualification or equivalent extensive industry experience with relevant training.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working within a startup or scale-up environment, managing resource constraints and project priorities.
  • Knowledge of ground segment operations, satellite systems, laser communication technology, or optical systems is highly advantageous.
  • Understanding of deploying ground stations and network operations within the space communications sector.
  • Experience with communication systems on maritime or drone platforms, especially optical systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes in engineering contexts, alongside traditional waterfall planning.
  • Experience in contractual negotiations involving multi-party legal agreements and intellectual property rights.

Location and Working Conditions

The position is based at the company’s office in Osney Mead, Oxford. There is potential for flexible remote working arrangements, subject to agreement with the line manager. Occasional business travel may be required.
