DeepMind, a leading AI research organization under Google, is seeking a dedicated Research Collaboration Lead to manage and develop its external research partnership programs. This role involves creating and executing strategies to connect DeepMind Institute (DMI) with key academic, scientific, and policy communities, positioning DMI as a responsible and influential voice in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) socio-technical research. The successful candidate will design frameworks to foster collaboration, secure resources, and manage operational delivery of research initiatives, ensuring alignment with DMIâ??s strategic goals.
As a Research Collaboration Lead, your responsibilities will include leading the development of external convenings and research programs, engaging with key opinion leaders, and establishing mechanisms to support external research efforts. You will be tasked with evolving the research collaboration strategy, identifying priorities, and managing campaigns and operational structures to facilitate effective partnerships. Additionally, you will connect insights from these collaborations to inform policy, educate stakeholders, and build public trust in AI technologies.
Qualifications for this role include a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least seven years of experience in managing research collaborations, academic relations, or partnership programs within the technology, research, or non-profit sectors. Experience in designing and operationalizing research funding programs, organizing scientific or policy events, and engaging external stakeholders is essential. Preferred qualifications include experience sourcing external funding, familiarity with the AI landscapeâ??particularly AGIâ??and a proven ability to influence policy through engagement with policymakers, think tanks, and academic institutions. Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments are also required.
