Our client based in Oxfordshire is actively seeking a skilled Semiconductor Process Engineer to join their team. This role involves supporting the development, transfer, and optimization of coated consumable manufacturing processes within a cleanroom environment. The engineer will serve as a technical link between research and development (R&D) and manufacturing operations, focusing on new product introduction (NPI), design transfer, process capability, yield enhancement, and troubleshooting production issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with R&D teams to create and transfer manufacturing-ready processes for innovative semiconductor products.
- Lead or assist in the industrialization process, ensuring smooth technology transfer and scaling up of new processes, while providing input on design for manufacturability.
- Establish and define Critical Process Parameters (CPPs) and Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) to maintain process quality and consistency.
- Develop, optimize, and oversee coating, surface preparation, and chemical treatment procedures used in semiconductor fabrication.
- Apply Design of Experiments (DoE), statistical analysis, and structured problem-solving techniques to improve process performance, yield, throughput, and cost efficiency.
- Set up and continuously monitor process KPIs, driving ongoing improvements and process stability.
- Investigate manufacturing issues, analyze process variations, and identify root causes of yield loss through detailed root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain, operations, and external partners to optimize processes and resolve technical challenges.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials or Surface Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Significant hands-on process engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably within semiconductor cleanroom settings.
- Practical knowledge of coating technologies and surface treatment processes used in high-precision manufacturing.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP for data-driven process improvements.
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies including DoE, 8D, and FMEA.
- Strong analytical skills, project management abilities, and excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively across teams.
