The Role
As a Senior Android Software Engineer based in our London office, you will be part of a high-impact product team working on Proton Drive, Payments, and Account. Your role will involve developing privacy-first products that are used by millions, including encrypted cloud storage and secure account infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to create high-quality Android experiences using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and an increasingly shared Rust core. You will take end-to-end ownership of your work and help define excellence in privacy-focused consumer products.
What We Are Looking For
- Extensive experience in building and shipping high-quality Android applications using Kotlin.
- Strong experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android development practices.
- A deep commitment to product quality, usability, and delivering exceptional user experiences.
- Experience in taking end-to-end ownership of features, from scoping and technical design through to delivery and iteration.
- Strong background in building maintainable, scalable, and testable mobile architectures.
- Comfortable working across large codebases and collaborating with multiple teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical standards within a team.
- Strong understanding of performance, concurrency, multithreading, and mobile memory management.
- Knowledge of mobile scalability considerations, including caching, network usage, responsiveness, and offline behavior.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and contribute to product and technical discussions.
- Experience with privacy, security, encryption, sync systems, or offline-first architectures is a plus.
- Rust experience is a plus, but not required.
