Arm is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel specializing in AI governance, privacy, and technology compliance to support its teams in building and deploying technology responsibly. This role involves close collaboration with teams across ethics, compliance, product development, engineering, data science, and security to ensure legal and regulatory adherence throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer legal advice to teams from the initial design phase through procurement, launch, maintenance, and eventual retirement of digital products, ensuring responsible use of technology.
- Assess and advise on risks related to AI systems, data privacy, cybersecurity, and digital products, guiding teams on appropriate actions based on these evaluations.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of the company’s AI governance program, including conducting reviews, risk assessments, establishing policies, controls, and maintaining records of compliance activities.
- Support compliance with relevant laws such as the EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act, GDPR, and other applicable regulations, advising on necessary legal adjustments and responses.
- Provide legal expertise on contractual agreements with third-party vendors and technology providers, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
- Assist with audits, regulatory inquiries, and incident responses, guiding teams through necessary legal and procedural steps.
- Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, practical advice for technical and business teams, fostering understanding and compliance.
- Recommend safeguards and best practices to mitigate legal risks, and monitor the progress of action plans to ensure completion.
Qualifications and Experience
- A valid legal qualification from the UK, EU/EEA, or relevant jurisdiction, with approximately 4 to 8 years of post-qualification experience or equivalent expertise.
- Significant experience in at least one of the following areas: AI governance, privacy, cybersecurity, or technology compliance, with familiarity with others.
- Knowledge of key regulatory frameworks including the EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act, GDPR, and related legislation.
- Experience advising product and engineering teams, with the ability to convert legal requirements into workable processes.
- Strong judgment, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and a technical curiosity to work independently across multiple disciplines.
Desirable Skills and Certifications
- Experience with AI governance programs, technical standards, product conformity, machine learning, or cloud services is advantageous.
- Relevant professional credentials such as AIGP, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, CISSP, or CISM are welcomed. Candidates with equivalent experience will be asked to obtain an approved certification within 12 months of joining.
