Google is seeking a highly skilled Power Protection and Controls Engineer to join its Data Center Engineering team, focusing on the physical design and operational excellence of data center infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Designing the overall architecture of data center power protection and control systems, contributing to research and development efforts.
- Developing operational and maintenance procedures for critical infrastructure systems.
- Performing engineering analyses and research to improve equipment and facility designs, ensuring they meet operational standards.
- Ensuring that system designs and installations comply with safety, cooling, and structural requirements.
- Investigating and integrating renewable energy generation and carbon-neutral storage technologies, developing innovative solutions to protect these energy sources.
- Leading technical teams during system commissioning and field testing of complex power protection schemes.
- Analyzing power quality issues and devising solutions to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement infrastructure improvements and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Providing expert guidance on protection and control engineering to ensure system safety and operational excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of five years working on critical infrastructure projects with a focus on process improvements.
- At least five years of experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing platforms such as RTDS or OPAL-RT.
- Extensive experience in protection and control engineering for mission-critical systems.
- Experience working in environments that operate continuously without failure, such as data centers, power plants, refineries, or chemical processing facilities.
- Preferred candidates will have a master’s degree in engineering.
- Proficiency in writing control system code and programming control solutions.
- Experience with electrical transient analysis software like ETAP, SKM, or PSCAD.
- Knowledge of IT server and network systems supporting data center operations.
- Ability to perform closed-loop testing to validate protection and control system performance.

In Spain, the salary ranges from approximately â?¬84,000 to â?¬86,000 EUR, complemented by a 15% bonus target, equity, and additional benefits. In Ireland, the salary ranges from approximately â?¬110,000 to â?¬112,000 EUR, also with a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
