About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Visualisation Engineer to join our team. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, product design, and storytelling, focusing on extracting actionable insights from intricate datasets related to global trade, commodities, and maritime activities. The ideal candidate will operate with a high degree of independence, pushing the boundaries of visual communication by transforming complex data streams into intuitive, engaging, and interactive visual narratives. Your work will directly support market participants worldwide by enabling them to derive immediate strategic value from Kplerâ??s industry-leading intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively discover and develop compelling data narratives by exploring complex datasets related to commodities, maritime, and geopolitical information, without waiting for explicit briefs.
• Create comprehensive visual stories by translating detailed quantitative findings into engaging visual formats, including interactive, static, and animated presentations.
• Independently analyze, manipulate, and validate multi-layered datasets using SQL and Python, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all published insights.
• Design and prototype innovative interactive data visualization tools utilizing modern web technologies such as JavaScript and TypeScript, incorporating AI-assisted workflows.
• Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams including product managers, data engineers, market analysts, and designers from hypothesis development through to final publication.
• Establish and promote best practices for data visualization, refine workflows, and mentor colleagues to elevate the organizationâ??s standards for data storytelling.

Experience & Qualifications

• Between 7 and 10 years of experience in fields such as data journalism, information design, visual storytelling, or related quantitative areas.
• Proven ability to independently query, analyze, and validate complex datasets using SQL, Python, or similar tools, with confidence in defending published insights.
• Strong spatial analysis skills and familiarity with GIS technologies for analyzing location-based data and spatial relationships.
• Technical expertise in modern web technologies, including JavaScript and TypeScript, along with experience with contemporary front-end frameworks.
• Exceptional visual communication skills demonstrated through a portfolio that highlights editorial judgment and narrative clarity across data-driven projects.
• Preferred qualifications include a degree or MSc in Locational Analytics, Design, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields, and an interest or background in global commodities, energy markets, trading, or maritime transportation.
• Enthusiasm for experimenting with AI tools and continuously improving workflows through innovative design and engineering practices.
