About the Department and Team

The Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) team at Cloudflare develops new and experimental products that leverage our extensive network infrastructure. The Workers KV team specifically focuses on delivering a globally distributed, low-latency key-value storage service that enables developers to build dynamic, high-performance APIs and websites. The team is distributed across Western Europe and works on solving large-scale problems at the edge of the network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers dedicated to developing and enhancing the Workers KV product, ensuring high standards of performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define product features and roadmap, aligning technical development with business goals.
  • Drive improvements in system scalability, performance, and efficiency to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
  • Oversee project planning, team building, and execution to ensure timely delivery of features and updates.
  • Design and promote developer-friendly APIs that support high throughput and low latency at scale.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning within the team.
  • Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers, inspiring professional growth and high performance.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences, ensuring shared understanding across teams.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges, including debugging, system optimization, and failure analysis in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Implement and improve tools, processes, and methodologies to streamline development and enhance system reliability.

Candidate Profile

  • At least four years of recent experience working with TypeScript or Go programming languages.
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, including hiring, onboarding, and developing team members.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of building shared understanding among team members and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to design and build scalable distributed systems, especially those that are developer-centric and performant.
  • Comfort with navigating ambiguity and building solutions for novel problems.
  • Ability to plan projects, build teams, and oversee execution to meet commitments reliably.
  • Experience creating developer-friendly APIs that support high traffic volumes.
  • Familiarity with tools, processes, and methodologies that improve development workflows and system robustness.
