Capgemini is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join their team in Manchester, working within the Financial Services (FS) Business Unit as part of the Cloud & Custom Applications (C&CA) practice. This role involves helping clients solve complex business challenges by developing modern, scalable digital solutions that are innovative, secure, and future-ready. The position emphasizes collaboration within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality applications, enable intelligent automation, and support AI-driven transformation initiatives.

Work Environment and Responsibilities

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining work from company offices, client sites, and your home, depending on your role, needs, and business requirements. Note that working entirely from home is not permitted. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise applications that deliver tangible business results. You will translate business and user needs into robust software solutions, build integrated services and application components to improve operational efficiency and user experience, and contribute to the adoption of AI-enabled features and automation within business systems.

You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Ensuring applications are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with engineering best practices is essential. Your role involves participating in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and identifying opportunities for system optimization and innovation. Supporting modern delivery practices to enable reliable and efficient software releases is also a key aspect. Additionally, fostering a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and future skills development is highly encouraged.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in delivering enterprise-scale software solutions.
• Proven ability to develop object-oriented and backend applications.
• Strong expertise in Java programming, with additional skills in Python.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.
• Deep understanding of application integration patterns, APIs, and service-oriented design.
• Knowledge of database design, data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle within Agile environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of translating business needs into technical solutions.
• Experience integrating AI-driven features into business applications.
• Familiarity with Generative AI concepts such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, AI agents, and model integration techniques.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A proactive attitude towards continuous learning and adopting emerging technologies and AI capabilities.
