Our client, a rapidly expanding player in the semiconductor industry, is seeking a Senior Physical Design Engineer to join their team in Bristol, England. This company specializes in developing advanced computing platforms that support artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and data-intensive applications. As a Senior Physical Design Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative team responsible for transforming complex RTL designs into high-quality silicon chips. This role involves hands-on work across the entire digital backend flow, ensuring that designs meet performance, power, and area targets at advanced technology nodes such as 7nm or below. You will also have the chance to influence design methodologies, improve workflows, and contribute to innovative solutions for next-generation products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple stages of the physical design process, including floorplanning, placement, routing, and final sign-off to ensure design integrity.
- Optimize designs for power efficiency, high performance, and minimal silicon area while adhering to strict project timelines.
- Contribute to the development of new design flows and automation tools aimed at increasing team productivity.
- Collaborate closely with teams involved in RTL design, verification, packaging, and product engineering to ensure seamless integration and high-quality outputs.
- Own and resolve complex technical challenges, proposing innovative and reliable solutions to meet project goals.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Have substantial practical experience in digital backend and physical design, ideally involving advanced nodes such as 7nm or smaller.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of timing closure, clock tree synthesis, physical verification, and sign-off procedures.
- Be proficient in scripting and programming languages such as Python and Tcl.
- Experience working through the full digital backend flow with a focus on silicon quality and performance.
