Skyral is seeking a highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer to join their team in London. This role involves taking full ownership of complex platform initiatives, from expanding the core platform infrastructure to supporting customized customer solutions. Mentorship is a vital aspect of this position, with responsibilities including reviewing code, pairing with engineers, and sharing knowledge to uplift the team’s overall expertise. The role also emphasizes improving developer productivity through the enhancement of tooling and automation, such as creating reusable GitHub Actions, implementing GitOps workflows, developing Terraform modules, and utilizing platforms like Backstage.

Managing and maintaining reusable components that package common open-source tools like Grafana, Istio, and CloudNativePG is another core responsibility, ensuring these tools can be deployed efficiently across different environments. Security is integrated into all aspects of the platform, with a focus on designing secure-by-default infrastructure, conducting compliance audits, and working closely with security engineers to uphold security standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Robust software engineering skills with significant experience in developing tooling and services using Go or Python.
  • Deep expertise in infrastructure and automation practices, including Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform), CI/CD pipelines (using GitHub Actions), and GitOps workflows (such as ArgoCD).
  • Practical experience building scalable, reusable infrastructure on major cloud platforms like GCP or AWS.
  • Experience deploying and managing services in on-premises environments is considered a plus.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, including deploying, operating, and managing cloud-based clusters.
  • A production-oriented mindset with experience in enhancing system reliability through observability, incident response, and alerting systems.
