We are seeking a Senior RF Filter Engineer to join a prominent RF/microwave technology manufacturer located near Leeds, England. This company specializes in various sectors, including space, defense, high-reliability communications, and next-generation connectivity hardware. With a strong focus on growth and innovation, they are looking for an experienced engineer to take charge of RF/microwave filter design projects from inception to completion.
Role Overview
The Senior RF Filter Engineer will be a key member of the core RF/microwave engineering group, responsible for advanced filter design, new product introduction (NPI) support, and collaboration across engineering, operations, and customer-facing teams. The role emphasizes delivering technically robust and manufacturable designs that align with performance, cost, and scheduling objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, simulation, prototyping, tuning, verification, and release of high-performance RF/microwave filters and filter-based subsystems.
- Own the end-to-end design process for RF/microwave filters and subsystems, ensuring manufacturability and adherence to performance, cost, and schedule targets.
- Contribute to research and development initiatives for next-generation filters.
- Support sales and commercial teams during the quotation process and engage directly with customers as needed.
- Compile and verify all design documentation, including logbooks, data packs, reviews, and new product introduction (NPI) documentation for design release.
- Deliver fully verified, production-ready designs within project constraints.
- Prepare and review tollgate documentation in accordance with internal NPI processes.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Conduct comprehensive design verification and validation, including the creation of test plans, reports, and reliability testing.
- Maintain an accurate design compliance matrix, providing evidence of compliance.
- Support product introduction, troubleshoot issues, and develop diagnostic and training procedures.
Requirements
- A degree or equivalent qualification in RF/Microwave Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in RF/microwave filter design, including tolerance and yield analysis, power handling, thermal drift, and design for manufacturability (DFM) considerations.
- Proficiency in Microwave Office, CST Studio, and Spark3D software.
- Hands-on experience in tuning RF/microwave filters using vector network analyzers (VNAs), power handling, and temperature testing.
- Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Highly motivated and proactive, comfortable working across various engineering disciplines.
