Senior Software Engineer Overview

Borderless is on a mission to simplify global immigration, starting with the UK. We aim to create a world where borders do not pose barriers, empowering individuals and businesses alike. Our platform is already supporting over 600 businesses and 15,000 workers, and we are rapidly expanding into new sectors and markets.

We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. This hands-on position involves writing clean, scalable code and building our core immigration product. You will collaborate closely with our Engineering Director, Head of Product, and a cross-functional team to address customer needs and solve their challenges. Our platform is deployed more than 10 times daily, allowing for quick iterations based on user feedback. Please note that this role requires you to work in the office three days a week; if this is not feasible for you, we kindly ask that you do not apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the core immigration platform for candidates, businesses, and internal teams.
• Write clean, scalable, and well-documented code using TypeScript, React, and SQL.
• Design and maintain complex data models ensuring performance and extensibility.
• Collaborate with various departments including Product, Operations, Customer Support, Sales, and Engineering.
• Identify and address platform bottlenecks, technical debt, and stability issues.
• Contribute to architectural and data design decisions.

• Proven experience in building full-stack web applications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to collaborative work.
• Ability to think critically about web application structure and performance, including understanding trade-offs.
• Interest in shaping the foundation of a growing product and team.
• Desire for personal growth within the company, with potential for tech leadership roles.
• Enthusiasm for the impact of AI and LLMs on software development.

Technology Stack

Our current technology stack includes TypeScript, Node, React (NextJS), PostgreSQL, and AWS (Lambdas, CDK). However, we encourage you to apply even if you are not familiar with every technology listed.

Interview Process

• 30-minute screening call with Talent.
• 1-hour interview with the Director of Engineering.
• 1-hour technical interview involving a pair programming task (no take-home assignment).
• 2-hour final onsite interview with the Engineering Director, CTO, and Product Lead.
