Cloudflare is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join its Fintech team, focusing on building and maintaining the core financial systems that support billing, payments, invoicing, and revenue recognition. This role involves designing reliable, scalable, and fault-tolerant microservices that handle critical financial workflows, ensuring accuracy and operational excellence across the platform.
About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for leading projects from the initial requirements phase through to deployment and ongoing operation. You will develop transactional microservices supporting metering, subscriptions, invoicing, and payment processing, ensuring these systems can handle high transaction volumes with high reliability. Monitoring and troubleshooting production services to resolve billing issues and improve system observability will be key aspects of the role. Additionally, you will participate in architectural reviews, make pragmatic technical decisions, and help set engineering standards for the billing platform. Collaboration with teams across Product, Finance, Accounting, Support, and other engineering groups is essential to translate complex business needs into maintainable technical solutions.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in software engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience designing and operating distributed backend systems in a production environment.
- Strong proficiency in Go programming language or a similar modern language, with a desire to work extensively with Go.
- Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, service security, and API standards such as OpenAPI, OAuth, or JWT.
- Familiarity with SQL, data modeling, and relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience designing secure, highly available microservices in Linux or Unix environments.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing techniques.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project ownership skills.
Bonus Points
- Experience with billing, payments, subscriptions, usage metering, invoicing, financial ledgers, or revenue recognition.
- Knowledge of technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, or Temporal.
- Understanding of reconciliation, idempotency, auditability, and maintaining financial data integrity.
- Experience leading complex technical projects across multiple teams.
