Qualifications Bachelor’s
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time

Join a dynamic team that builds the platform utilized by Bloomberg engineering teams to deploy and manage production services. The Bloomberg Platform as a Service (BPaaS) is a sophisticated multi-tenant system based on Kubernetes, where we enhance K8s with custom controllers and operators to oversee the complete lifecycle of workloads across Bloomberg’s extensive infrastructure. This role is part of the BPaaS Scalability team, which focuses on automating operations across nearly a hundred clusters, ensuring that managing such a vast number of clusters is efficient and reliable.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Design and implement Kubernetes operators and custom controllers that manage workloads across a large multi-tenant platform.
  • Write production code in Go and Python that interacts with the Kubernetes API using client-go and controller-runtime.
  • Own features from CRD design through implementation to rollout.
  • Address distributed systems challenges such as consistency, failure modes, leader election, and graceful degradation.
  • Collaborate with other platform and infrastructure teams to integrate with Bloomberg-wide systems.
  • Enhance the platform’s reliability and operability through better abstractions.
  • Bring forward new ideas and challenge existing approaches.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong programming skills in Go and/or Python.
  • Experience with Kubernetes internals, including extending it through operators, controllers, CRDs, and admission webhooks.
  • A solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, reconciliation, and failure handling.
  • A curiosity about how systems work and a willingness to explore unfamiliar technologies.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

We would also appreciate seeing:

  • Contributions to open-source projects within the Kubernetes ecosystem, such as controller-runtime, kubebuilder, or operator-sdk.
  • Experience in building multi-tenant platforms or control planes.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript/JavaScript for CLI or UI tooling.
  • Experience in designing APIs (REST or gRPC) for developer-facing platforms.

If this opportunity resonates with you, we encourage you to apply. We will reach out to discuss the next steps. In the meantime, feel free to explore more about Bloomberg and our culture through our podcast series.
