We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a talented team of software engineers at Amazon Web Services’ Simple Storage Service (AWS S3). This position involves contributing to the design and development of essential services within S3, which is recognized as one of the largest distributed storage systems globally, managing trillions of objects.

Your role will include addressing the challenges associated with global-scale event processing and delivering object usage and storage information to our customers. At AWS, we emphasize ownership of our work, maintaining high standards for test automation, verification processes, and code reviews to meet customer expectations. Our engineering teams participate in a regular on-call rotation to resolve issues, with a strong focus on minimizing nighttime disruptions to support employee productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily activities of the S3 Compute development team.
• Develop and maintain a long-term roadmap for the team.
• Ensure the operational fitness of the team.
• Mentor and develop the skills of team members.
• Engage with stakeholders and customers to ensure we are building the right solutions.

Basic Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices for the entire software/hardware/networks development lifecycle.
• Experience in managing engineering teams.
• Hands-on engineering experience.
• Experience in system design or architecture, focusing on reliability and scalability.
• Ability to collaborate with product and program management teams.
• Strong relationship-building skills with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users and technical teams to gather requirements and discuss software features and product strategies.
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
