Deliveroo is seeking a talented Backend Software Engineer to join our London-based team, working within our Core Business Intelligence (BI) group. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining the services, integrations, and automation that enable business intelligence across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt. Our platforms empower analysts, data scientists, and business teams to access reliable, secure, and scalable data, facilitating informed decision-making at a large scale.

The role involves hands-on engineering of backend services, APIs, and infrastructure that support BI tools such as Looker and Sigma. You will automate the entire lifecycle of the platform, including provisioning, metadata management, permissions, migrations, archiving, and data validation, reducing manual administrative effort. Building integrations with data warehouses, identity providers, orchestration systems, CI/CD pipelines, and internal developer tools is also a key part of your responsibilities.

Ensuring the availability, performance, security, and observability of your systems in production is critical. You will incorporate AI technologies, including large language models, into platform workflows, ensuring they meet high standards of reliability and governance. The role also involves elevating engineering practices through service design, code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and documentation, all while enhancing the developer experience.

You will work closely with cross-functional teamsâ??Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and business stakeholdersâ??to translate user needs into durable, self-service solutions. Ownership of complex problems from discovery to operational support is expected, along with proactive communication and technical leadership.

Ideal candidates will have over three years of experience in backend or platform engineering, proficiency in Python and SQL, and hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, and system observability. Familiarity with AI tools and deploying AI features in production is advantageous. Experience with BI platforms like Looker or Sigma, semantic layers such as LookML or dbt, and identity automation tools like Okta or SCIM is a plus.
