About the Role

As a member of the Persistence team within the Compute division, you will be responsible for managing and improving our fleet of clusters, which run hundreds of instances across various regions. Your daily tasks will involve writing Golang code and using Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, while also gaining experience with Nomad as our workload scheduler. You will rethink the foundational elements of our infrastructure, focusing on virtual filesystems, Linux primitives, and low-level virtualization. Additionally, you will own the reliability and performance of our compute platform, participating in on-call duties where your contributions will have a significant impact.

What You Will Do

• Manage and enhance our fleet of clusters, ensuring optimal performance across all deployment regions.
• Write Golang code and utilize Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, while becoming familiar with Nomad for workload management.
• Reevaluate the foundational elements of our infrastructure, focusing on virtual filesystems and low-level virtualization.
• Ensure the reliability and performance of our compute platform, including on-call responsibilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to unify compute operations at Vercel.

About You

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong preference for Golang proficiency.
• Deep understanding of virtual machines, file systems, and Linux, with familiarity in tools like tcpdump, strace, and iptables.
• Experience in designing and operating distributed systems at scale, focusing on performance and reliability.
• Familiarity with schedulers and orchestrators for managing workloads, such as Nomad or Kubernetes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling complex challenges.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with low-level virtualization or sandbox execution environments.
• Product engineering experience with a focus on the developer experience.
• Experience in on-call operations for large-scale distributed systems.
