We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our Front Line (FL) team, which is responsible for maintaining and developing the core Cloudflare web server. This server handles over 150 million HTTP requests every second, making it the largest web server in the world. The team focuses on enhancing system efficiency, safety, deployment frequency, automation, and observability. The platform is entirely built using Rust, with collaboration across more than 20 teams working on the same codebase.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside a team of skilled engineers to improve the platform’s reliability, security, and availability at the network edge.
• Contribute to building and maintaining the world’s largest web server, ensuring high performance and robustness.
• Enhance operational efficiency through automation, improved deployment processes, and system observability.
• Collaborate with various product and engineering teams to develop innovative solutions that benefit millions of users globally.
• Apply expertise in algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and distributed systems to develop scalable software.
• Engage in performance engineering to optimize system speed and resource utilization.
• Promote effective communication and consensus across multiple teams to achieve project goals.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvements and contribute to new product features and solutions.

Qualifications and Skills

• Strong practical knowledge of computer science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and concurrency control.
• Experience in performance optimization and engineering.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build consensus among diverse teams.
• A proactive mindset focused on continuous operational and product improvements.
• Experience with programming languages such as Rust and Go is beneficial.
• Knowledge of web servers, web protocols, and distributed systems architecture.
• Understanding of web security issues and adherence to industry standards.
• A passion for learning new skills and solving unique challenges related to managing the world’s largest web server.
