This role is based in Oxfordshire, England, and involves taking a senior technical lead in FPGA design and development for a leading quantum computing company specializing in trapped-ion technology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing critical signal processing and control functions within FPGA architectures. This includes engaging in RTL design, verification, modeling, hardware testing, and system-level debugging. Collaboration with electronics, software, and quantum engineering teams is essential to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume ownership of FPGA technology supporting advanced quantum systems.
  • Design and develop signal processing and control functionalities critical to system operation.
  • Participate in all phases of FPGA development, from RTL design to verification and modeling.
  • Perform hardware testing and debugging at the system level to troubleshoot issues and enhance performance.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate FPGA solutions into larger hardware and software frameworks.
  • Architect FPGA solutions aimed at scalable and commercially viable quantum hardware.

Candidate Requirements

  • More than ten years of hands-on experience in FPGA development, demonstrating advanced technical skills.
  • Strong expertise in RTL design and verification using languages such as SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Deep experience with FPGA-based digital signal processing, including DDC/DUC, DDS, and FIR/IIR filtering techniques.
  • Practical experience working with Xilinx UltraScale+ MPSoC platforms, including hardware and software integration.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation using Python, MATLAB, or Simulink.
  • Proven verification skills, including writing testbenches and achieving functional and code coverage.
  • Hands-on hardware debugging experience using tools like JTAG, ILA, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment.
  • Additional experience with JESD204B interfaces, ADC/DAC systems, DDR3/4 memory, 10Gb Ethernet, embedded Linux, or ASIC development is advantageous but not mandatory.
