Summer Vacation Scheme 2027 Overview

The Summer Vacation Scheme is a two-week program tailored for penultimate year students from any degree discipline. This scheme offers a unique opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of working in a leading law firm. Participants will develop essential skills and gain insights into the role of an international commercial lawyer.

Application Process

To apply, candidates must submit an online application detailing their educational and work history. Following this, applicants will receive an email with a link to complete an online experience that includes verbal and numerical reasoning assessments, along with two short motivation questions via video. This untimed online experience is designed to provide a realistic preview of the trainee experience at A&O Shearman and should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. All components must be submitted by the specified deadline, and only one application is permitted per recruitment cycle.

Scheme Overview

The Summer Vacation Scheme runs from July 5 to July 16, 2027. Successful candidates may receive a training contract offer for the Autumn intakes. Throughout the scheme, participants will have access to various learning tools and resources to help them excel in their legal careers.

Requirements

• Must be in the penultimate year of study from any degree discipline.
• Minimum A-Level grades of AAB (136 UCAS points) or equivalent, and on track for or achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree.
• At least 7 GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including maths and English.
• Demonstrated qualities such as open-mindedness, innovation, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Key Dates

Applications open on September 14, 2026, and close on November 9, 2026, at 5 PM UK time. Assessment days will occur during the week of December 7, 2026.
