DeepMind, a leading AI research organization under Google, is seeking a skilled Technical Program Manager to oversee the transition of agent technology from research prototypes into fully operational production systems. This role involves managing complex projects that support the deployment of advanced AI agents powering Google products such as Search, Workspace, and Gemini Spark. The successful candidate will work closely with research teams, engineers, and product stakeholders to ensure seamless progression from research to deployment, focusing on improving the quality and reliability of agent harness technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end process of transforming research prototypes into production-ready agent capabilities, from initial engagement to final deployment.
- Partner with research scientists, engineers, and technical leads to understand project goals, translating these into a structured backlog with clear priorities, responsibilities, and timelines.
- Set objectives for initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of the agent harness, managing daily activities such as planning, stand-ups, progress tracking, and escalation procedures.
- Implement systematic benchmarking and optimization techniques, including hillclimbing, to improve key performance metrics valued by customers.
- Ensure each project or feature is production-ready by conducting load testing, capacity planning, managing quotas, and coordinating deployment strategies with the relevant teams.
- Manage the handover process to product teams, ensuring smooth transition into operational environments, including sandbox testing and deployment management.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelorĂ¢??s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience managing complex technical programs, with a history of leading projects through all stages of product development, from prototype to end-of-life.
- Five or more years of experience in software development lifecycle management and stakeholder communication.
- Minimum of two years working on or launching products involving Generative AI, AI/ML, or Large Language Models.
- Preferred: Degree in Computer Science, AI, or related fields, with additional experience managing cross-team projects or teams.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in software engineering roles.
