Google is seeking a highly experienced Fire Safety Engineering Lead to oversee fire safety governance, auditing, and validation across its regional operations within the EMEA region. This senior role involves establishing and maintaining high standards of fire safety by applying leading European and international safety frameworks, including UK regulations such as the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Order, as well as other local and global codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce regional fire safety policies that align with top European and international standards to ensure consistent safety performance across all sites in the region.
- Review, audit, and validate architectural and MEP fire safety plans for new constructions and renovations, providing expert oversight of external consultantsâ?? work.
- Manage a regional Fire Risk Assessment program, performing quality assurance audits on third-party assessments to uphold safety standards.
- Act as the regional subject matter expert, translating and applying standards such as UK Approved Document B, BS 9999/9991, and international codes like NFPA 101/5000, UAE Fire and Life Safety Code, and German standards.
- Collaborate with fire engineering consultancies and risk assessors to ensure their deliverables meet performance SLAs and quality expectations.
- Provide technical guidance on fire safety for diverse building types, including high-rise structures, laboratories, and large event venues, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Support physical risk evaluations and contribute to the development of practical safety frameworks in partnership with the Real Estate team.
- Participate in incident response planning and crisis management to ensure rapid and effective action during emergencies, safeguarding personnel and assets.
- Foster a safety-first culture by integrating safety, security, and resilience into all operational aspects and strategic initiatives.
- Identify safety risks, monitor safety performance, and recommend improvements to safety policies and procedures to continually enhance safety standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelorâ??s degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Risk Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fire Risk Assessment Certification at Level 4 or similar qualification.
- Minimum of 10 yearsâ?? experience in fire engineering, including technical audits and governance of life safety systems across complex portfolios.
- Proven track record in auditing buildings and evaluating fire safety measures, with strong knowledge of architectural and engineering plans.
- Relevant international safety credentials such as CFPS, CFPA Europe Diploma, or NEBOSH certificates/diplomas.
- Membership as a full or fellow member of recognized fire safety organizations like IFE, IFSM, or SFPE, preferably listed on the Fire Risk Assessor Register.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, evacuation models, and third-party reports with precision.
- Strong understanding of UK and international fire safety standards and codes.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior staff and lead safety initiatives.
